Dear fellow Tolkien fan,
I know this page doesn’t look all that great at the moment, but I’m expecting something awesome here fairly soon. Right now, volunteers and ideas are being gathered, and while it might take a little time to get it all to come together, there was a reason Elrond called a council and let people talk for a really long time instead of making a quick decision himself. There are already some ideas that I have on how things would be best run: I was a volunteer both for the My Precious Awards, and for the Mithril Awards in the past, and have been on judging panels for smaller competitions at various yahoo groups and the like. This is not my first attempt at being the leader of ‘something else’ awards related, but the something elses were usually complicated or exclusive to a certain part of the fandom. That, I think, is the trouble. In the words of Lady Gaga, ‘Baby, I was born this way’. No story will be turned down for any reason related to content. The only reason it would not be allowed for submission is if the story was found to be plagiarized – which is really the only ethical reason to turn something down. I mean, I hate zombies. Really, really hate those things. Especially zombie chickens. But just because I dislike something does not mean taking that away from other people. In fact, to show good faith on this, we will even have a zombies and other dead things category *shudders a little*. Beyond the zombies and other dead things category, this canvas is very empty. I’m not looking to run a me-fan awards, I want to get the revolution going on a we-fan awards. If you’d like to see the ideas or contribute to them, you can do so at http://tolkienawards.livejournal.com/ The door there will always be open.
Namarie for now, Zhie
PS - (added 7/4/2012) Now that the MEFAs are folding, there is a move to recreate them in some way going on at http://mefa-ratings.livejournal.com/ and they are also looking for volunteers. |
